Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological epic Ramayana has taken a major step towards reaching international audiences. Sony Pictures Entertainment has officially come on board to distribute the film across global markets outside India, giving the project one of the biggest worldwide release platforms ever planned for an Indian film.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for Ramayana, which has been envisioned as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the ancient Indian epic. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the film features an ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The first installment is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, followed by the second part in Diwali 2027.
The project has been in development for several years and is widely regarded as one of the most ambitious films ever mounted in Indian cinema. With large-scale visual effects, international production standards, and a story rooted in one of India’s greatest epics, the makers have consistently emphasized their vision of presenting Ramayana to audiences across the world.
Sony Pictures’ involvement adds significant global credibility to the project. The Hollywood studio has distributed several major international blockbusters over the years, including franchises such as Spider-Man, Jumanji, Venom, Ghostbusters, Bad Boys, and The Equalizer. With its extensive worldwide theatrical distribution network, Sony’s partnership is expected to help Ramayana reach audiences far beyond traditional Indian diaspora markets.
Following the international distribution deal, the makers also decided to postpone the film’s trailer launch to align it with a larger global rollout strategy. The move reflects their intention to introduce Ramayana as a worldwide cinematic event rather than limiting its promotional campaign to India alone.
With Sony Pictures now leading its international release and a grand global strategy in place, Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Indian films in recent years, carrying the potential to introduce one of India’s most timeless stories to audiences around the globe.
