The first half of 2026 in Telugu cinema has come to an end and it has been disastrous if compared to the number of films released and the number of films that made money or recovered their investments. Megastar Chiranjeevi opened the year with a bang with Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu and Naveen Polishetty’s Anagananga Oka Raju ended up as a super hit. After years, Sharwanand made his comeback with Nari Nari Naduma Murari. After three successful films during Sankranthi, Tollywood predicted an exceptional year but all the later releases ended up as disasters.
Santosh Shoban’s Couple Friendly ended up decent in multiplexes and offered a relief for the actor. Sharwanand’s work is appreciated in Biker but the film could not end up as a money spinner. Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit has been decent. The summer has been utterly disappointing for Telugu cinema. With no prominent releases, the exhibitors suffered in the holiday season. Dubbed films ,ike Veerabhadrudu and Drishyam 3 offered a relief to an extent. Ram Charan’s Peddi revived the film industry back in June and the film emerged as the highest grosser among Ram Charan’s films. Maa Inti Bangaaram featuring Samantha is the biggest hit among the women-centric films. Samantha will make huge profits through the film. Sing Geetham received wide appreciation from the critics and Singeetam Srinivasa Rao’s work at this age is appreciated.
The Raja Saab and Ustaad Bhagat Singh are the biggest disasters for Telugu cinema this year. With a number of releases in the first half, close to five films have recovered their investments and ended up as super hits. There are a bunch of releases in the second half of 2026 and hope the second half will be a great one for Telugu cinema.
