ZEE5 has expanded its children’s entertainment lineup with the launch of Shivlok Ke Kundakka Mandakka, a brand-new animated series inspired by Indian mythology. The KidZ Original premiered on July 17 and is now available in six languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bangla, and English.
The series is adapted from bestselling author Anand Neelakantan’s popular children’s book, The Very, Extremely, Most Naughty Asura Tales for Kids. It follows the adventures of mischievous Asura twins, Kundakka and Mandakka, whose playful nature leads them into a magical world filled with courage, friendship, and self-discovery.
Unlike traditional mythology stories centered on the Ramayana and Mahabharata, the series explores lesser-known characters and mythical worlds. Packed with humor, action, and colorful animation, it offers young viewers a fresh take on Indian mythology while highlighting values such as kindness, empathy, and bravery.
Shivlok Ke Kundakka Mandakka is designed as the beginning of a larger animated universe, with more characters, adventures, and stories planned for the future. Speaking about the launch, Chandan Khandelwal, Business Head of KidZ at ZEE5, said the platform aims to bring timeless Indian stories to modern audiences through engaging animation and meaningful storytelling. Author Anand Neelakantan expressed his happiness over the adaptation of his book, saying it is exciting to see the characters come alive through animation. He said he hopes young audiences enjoy the adventures of Kundakka and Mandakka while discovering the richness of India’s mythological heritage.
