KGF turned Yash into a pan-Indian superstar, but the journey after that hasn’t been smooth. Nearly four years after KGF: Chapter 2, all eyes are on Toxic, one of the costliest Indian films ever made. While the project continues to generate curiosity, it now needs a major promotional push to match the expectations surrounding it. The film has faced several hurdles on its way to release. It was postponed multiple times, leading to endless speculation about production issues and reshoots. The makers were forced to officially deny reports of a 100-day reshoot, maintaining that the film was progressing as planned and that the delays were related to release strategy and global distribution rather than creative setbacks.
The promotional campaign has also received mixed reactions. While the initial glimpse created massive buzz, the recently released “Ladies & Ladies” promotional video invited criticism on social media, with many viewers questioning the presentation of the female characters. The controversy has shifted the conversation away from the film’s content, something the team would have preferred to avoid before release. With reports suggesting a budget running into several hundred crores and Yash deeply involved in the writing and production process, Toxic has become much more than another star vehicle. The actor has invested years into the film, making its box-office performance crucial for his next phase as both an actor and producer.
Another challenge is changing audience expectations. Recent successes have proved that scale alone is no longer enough. Viewers are demanding strong storytelling, and every big-budget action film is now judged on its content as much as its visuals. After such a long gap, Yash cannot afford an average response. With a new release date now locked, the responsibility lies with the makers to build excitement over the next few weeks. A powerful trailer, aggressive promotions and strong music could completely change the narrative. Toxic still has everything needed to emerge as a blockbuster, but it now requires the right momentum before it reaches theatres.
Geethu Mohandas is the director and KVN Productions invested big money on Toxic. The film releases on August 26th in theatres.
