Varun Tej’s horror-comedy Korean Kanakaraju has continued its theatrical run on a profitable note, despite reports suggesting that the film was struggling at the box office. Trade estimates indicate that the movie crossed its break-even target within its opening weekend, ensuring profits for the makers early in its run.
The film was reportedly made on a budget of around ₹38 crore. Even before its theatrical release, the producers had recovered nearly ₹26 crore through the sale of digital, satellite, and music rights. This significantly reduced the pressure on its theatrical performance, leaving the film needing only around ₹12 crore in distributor share to achieve break-even.
Powered by a solid opening weekend, Korean Kanakaraju reportedly collected around ₹13.2 crore net in India during its first three days, helping it enter the profit zone quickly. Although the film experienced the usual weekday slowdown, with daily collections dropping below ₹1 crore during its first week, its financial position had already been secured.
The film also witnessed renewed momentum during its second weekend. According to trade estimates, collections on the second Saturday surged by nearly 132%, with the movie earning around ₹1.60 crore net in India on the day. As of August 16, 2026, the film’s cumulative India net collection is estimated to be around ₹21.5 crore.
While mixed audience reviews and competition from new releases affected weekday footfalls, Korean Kanakaraju has managed to maintain a steady theatrical presence. The strong recovery through non-theatrical rights and its healthy opening weekend have ensured that the film remains a profitable venture for its producers.
With the film continuing its run in cinemas and attracting audiences over weekends, industry observers will now be watching how much further it can extend its lifetime box office total in the coming days.
