Committee Kurrollu has achieved a major milestone by winning two honours at the 72nd National Film Awards, including Best Telugu Feature Film, one of the highest recognitions for Telugu cinema at India’s most prestigious film awards. The film also received the Best Make-up Award, with P. Ravi Kumar earning the honour for his outstanding work.
Presented by Niharika Konidela and produced by Padmaja Konidela and Jayalakshmi Adapaka under the banners Pink Elephant Pictures and Shree Radha Damodar Studios, Committee Kurrollu marked Niharika’s debut as a feature film producer. The film was written and directed by debutant Yadhu Vamsee, who chose a rooted rural story featuring an ensemble cast of 16 newcomers.
Set in a village in Andhra Pradesh, Committee Kurrollu tells the story of a close-knit group of friends whose personal differences gradually develop into a larger conflict involving caste, class, identity, and social responsibility. Blending emotion, humour, nostalgia, and strong social commentary, the film won praise from both audiences and critics for its authentic storytelling.
The National Award also marks another significant achievement for director Yadhu Vamsee, whose debut feature has now received national recognition. Following the success of Committee Kurrollu, he is currently directing Bhari, starring Varun Tej.
The film’s second National Award went to P. Ravi Kumar for Best Make-up. His work played a crucial role in creating realistic character transformations across different timelines, contributing significantly to the film’s visual authenticity.
Released on August 9, 2024, Committee Kurrollu emerged as both a critical and commercial success. Produced on a budget of around ₹9 crore, the film earned approximately ₹18.5 crore at the theatrical box office and generated nearly ₹6 crore through non-theatrical rights, taking its overall revenue to about ₹24.5 crore.
Even before its National Award victory, the film had earned recognition across several prestigious platforms. It won Best Feature Film on National Integration, Communal Harmony and Social Uplift of Depressed Classes and Best Debut Director for Yadhu Vamsee at the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards 2024. It later received honours at the Gulf Academy Movie Awards (GAMA) 2025, SIIMA Awards 2025, and the 70th Filmfare Awards South, while Yadhu Vamsee was also nominated for Best Debut Director of Indian Feature Film at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Beyond awards and box office success, Committee Kurrollu has been widely appreciated for introducing fresh talent to Telugu cinema. With 16 newcomers making their mark, the film has opened doors for a new generation of actors and filmmakers while reinforcing the growing demand for content-driven cinema rooted in local culture.
