Young actor Harshith Reddy’s debut film Deewana is receiving encouraging feedback from audiences after its theatrical release on June 20. Produced by Vasudev Koppineni and Sridevi Karyampudi under the Arha Media and V Studios banners, the romantic drama marks the debut of actress Smeha Manimegalai and director Sreekanth Sangishetty. To celebrate the film’s success and growing word-of-mouth, the makers recently hosted a success meet in Hyderabad.
While expressing happiness over the audience response, several members of the team voiced concerns over the film receiving an A certificate from the censor board. They argued that the film contains no objectionable content, excessive violence, or intimate scenes that would typically warrant such a classification.
Actor Narsingh said many viewers have appreciated his role and praised the film’s emotional father-son relationship. He questioned the certification, stating that families are hesitant to watch the film because of the 18+ label despite the absence of objectionable content.
Actor Tony echoed similar concerns, saying the certification has created confusion among moviegoers. He noted that audiences who have watched the film are appreciating its content and performances, while actor K.K. urged viewers to support the film in theatres and avoid piracy.
Several cast and crew members highlighted the emotional depth of the story. Actress Sindhu praised director Sreekanth Sangishetty for bringing his vision to life, while Fight Master Hari said Harshith Reddy showcased strong potential as an action hero. Actor Jeevan Kumar described Deewana as a film that keeps audiences fully engaged with its portrayal of love, friendship, and relationships.
Music director Eshwar Chand called the project a dream that took nearly two decades to materialize. He expressed disappointment over the certification issue, arguing that such decisions can discourage aspiring filmmakers from bringing fresh stories to the screen.
Actress Jhansi revealed that audience reactions in theatres have been overwhelmingly positive and praised the director’s natural writing style and character development. According to her, the film’s emotional moments and relatable dialogues are resonating strongly with viewers.
Producer Vasudev Koppineni said the team is receiving appreciation from all quarters but believes the certification issue limited the film’s reach. He revealed that several planned promotional activities had to be cancelled because of delays related to certification. Confident about the film’s quality, he even stated that dissatisfied viewers could ask for their money back. To encourage more people to watch the film, the makers have reduced ticket prices to ₹100 in single-screen theatres and are planning special pricing for multiplexes.
Producer Sridevi Karyampudi also maintained that Deewana is a family-friendly film and said the 18+ warning is discouraging many potential viewers. She urged audiences to watch the film in theatres and judge it for themselves.
Director Sreekanth Sangishetty said censorship decisions are affecting the creative freedom of filmmakers and expressed concern that certain cuts dilute the essence of stories rooted in local culture and emotions. He thanked audiences for supporting the film and said their response has reinforced his belief in meaningful storytelling.
Hero Harshith Reddy described Deewana as a heartfelt love story that reflects real-life emotions and relationships. He shared that many viewers have contacted the team with emotional feedback after watching the film. Harshith also revealed that planned premiere shows could not be held due to certification delays and additional post-production requirements. He invited audiences to experience the film in theatres, calling it a memorable emotional journey that celebrates love, family, and human relationships.
Apart from Harshith Reddy and Smeha Manimegalai, the film also features V.K. Naresh, Jhansi, Balagam Venu, Narsingh, Tony, and others in key roles.
