Varun Tej’s upcoming horror comedy Korean Kanakaraju promises to be one of the biggest full-length entertainers of the season when it hits theaters globally. Helmed by director Merlapaka Gandhi the film combines supernatural elements with high-voltage situational humor.
The project stands out for its unique cross-cultural backdrop and ambitious production scale. Detailing the international shooting schedule, Merlapaka Gandhi revealed, “Getting visas was quite tough, but we decided right at the script stage that we had to shoot in real locations. We spent 20 days filming on an island in South Korea, and also shot crucial portions in Kazakhstan to give the audience a fresh visual experience.”
He praised Varun Tej’s preparation to play a dual shaded character. He said, “I like Varun Tej as an actor as he always tries to bring something unique. He is able to shed all his image and previous character influences to pull off the two extremes in this character with great confidence. His performance will be loved by all.” Gandhi further revealed that Varun involved in script from the beginning stage.
Beyond the supernatural thrills, the film weaves in a lighthearted romance with female lead Ritika, who plays a factory worker obsessed with Korean culture. Highlighting the comedic setup, the director explained, “When the hero gets possessed and starts speaking Korean, no one around him understands a word he is saying. That linguistic barrier generates incredible situational comedy, though Telugu subtitles will ensure the audience follows every joke seamlessly.” S Thaman scored music for this highly anticipated film produced by UV Creations and it is releasing on 7th August.
