A decade after Baahubali: The Beginning transformed Indian cinema, Prabhas has opened up about the life-changing impact of the film and how it turned him into a globally recognized star. As the franchise celebrates its 10-year milestone with Baahubali: The Torch Bearer, the actor shared memorable experiences that highlight the film’s extraordinary reach across the world.
Looking back on the journey, Prabhas revealed that the love for Baahubali extends far beyond India. He recalled being recognized by fans in countries like Italy and Peru, where people of different cultures and languages connected with the iconic character.
“I have had people come up to me in Italy and say my name. Even in Peru, where I had gone for some charity work, children told me how much they loved Baahubali. After the film, everything changed,” Prabhas said.
He also shared an interesting incident involving director S.S. Rajamouli during a visit to Norway. According to Prabhas, someone first recognized Rajamouli as a filmmaker before realizing he was the director of Baahubali, leaving both of them amazed at how widely the film had travelled across the globe.
Speaking about how fame has changed his everyday life, Prabhas said he can no longer travel anonymously. “When I wake up in a new country and people still recognize me, I call Rajamouli sir and joke, ‘Won’t you allow me to travel in this lifetime? Don’t I deserve a personal life?’ Earlier, we could visit cities like Mumbai or Delhi to stay away from attention. That’s not possible anymore. Wherever we go, someone says, ‘Baahubali.’”
Released in 2015, Baahubali: The Beginning redefined the scale of Indian filmmaking and became a landmark success worldwide. Ten years later, the franchise continues to inspire audiences across generations, while Prabhas remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated global stars. The enduring popularity of Baahubali stands as a testament to its cultural impact and its lasting place in the history of Indian cinema.
