Romanchakam is a Youth-Entertainer starring Sumanth Prabhas, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Upendra Limaye and others in key roles. Story:
Anvesh (Sumanth Prabhas) is a carefree youngster who dreams of launching a startup with his friends after completing his studies. However, his irresponsible lifestyle lands him in debt and financial trouble. Determined to do something meaningful, Anvesh develops a dating app called “Romanchakam” to connect people looking for companionship. During the app’s testing phase, he meets Mythili (Ananthika Sanilkumar), a girl from Chennai, and the two gradually grow close.
Wanting to surprise Mythili on her birthday, Anvesh travels to Chennai. Unfortunately, he loses his phone during the journey. After somehow contacting her, he asks her to meet him. Although Mythili initially agrees, she never turns up. Soon after, she blocks him on social media and completely disappears from his life.
Why did Mythili suddenly distance herself? Why did she block Anvesh? What made her return later? Is their relationship really built on love? What challenges do Anvesh and his friends face because of these events? The answers form the rest of the film.
What about on-screen performance?
Sumanth Prabhas fits comfortably into the role of Anvesh and delivers a sincere performance. His portrayal of a confused Gen-Z youngster trying to balance friendship, love and career feels natural. However, the character itself isn’t written with enough depth to leave a strong impression.
Ananthika Sanilkumar looks impressive on screen and performs well within the limited scope of her role. While she brings charm to the romantic portions, the screenplay doesn’t give her enough opportunities to make the character emotionally impactful.
The biggest strength of the film is undoubtedly Anvesh’s friends’ gang. Their casual conversations, fun banter and comic timing generate most of the laughs. Narendra Ravi stands out with his energetic performance, while Venkatesh Kakumanu, Mani, Sohan and the rest of the gang keep several scenes entertaining.
Upendra Limaye appears as a police officer and performs his role well. However, his character feels more like an add-on than an important part of the story, limiting its overall impact.
What about off-screen talents?
Director Venu Gopal Reddy shows promise in handling youthful moments and comedy, but the writing falls short when it comes to storytelling. The central conflict has potential, yet the screenplay never explores it deeply enough. Several scenes feel convenient, and the emotional moments don’t create the impact they aim for.
The production values are neat and the visuals are pleasant throughout the film. The cinematography complements the youthful atmosphere well, while the editing keeps the film moving despite a few dragging portions.
The music is decent, with Radha Ramana standing out as the best song in the album. The background score supports the mood but doesn’t elevate many scenes emotionally.
