Aamir Khan has finally responded to the controversy surrounding his marriage to Gauri Spratt. Days after facing allegations of “Love Jihad” and criticism from some religious groups and political leaders, the actor dismissed the claims and clarified that religion has never played a role in his personal relationships.
Speaking about the issue, Aamir said that neither Gauri Spratt nor his former wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, ever converted their religion. He revealed that all three marriages were registered civil marriages and that his family has always respected every religion. Calling the ongoing debate unnecessary, Aamir remarked that “Life is getting more comical as time passes”.
The controversy began soon after Aamir married his longtime friend Gauri Spratt in an intimate ceremony on July 5th. A section of religious leaders objected to the interfaith marriage, while Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane also questioned the actor’s marriage and linked it to the “Love Jihad” narrative. The issue quickly turned into a political and social debate on television and social media. Aamir maintained that his family believes in inclusivity and mutual respect. He reiterated that none of his marriages involved religious conversion and that such allegations have no basis. The actor has largely stayed away from public arguments over the controversy and has now chosen to address the issue directly.
On the professional front, Aamir is preparing for his next ambitious film Lalkaara, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Based on the 1952 India-Pakistan Test series, the sports drama is backed by Excel Entertainment and Rajkumar Hirani Films, with shooting scheduled to begin later this year.
